Taste of Vietnam and Cambodia 12 Days Summary


Day 1: Hanoi Arrival (D)

 

Activities: Arrive and settle into Hanoi. Watch a water puppet show before a group dinner together.

Our Incredible Asia Journeys tour guide will greet you at Noi Bai Airport and take you straight to Hanoian Elite Home Hotel.

After checking in at 14.00pm, take some time to explore the Old Quarter at your leisure. Maybe take a walk around Sword Lake with its bright red pagoda or sit down to your first Vietnamese coffee.

We will watch a Water Puppet Show in the late afternoon; this is a great chance to see an ancient art form unique to Vietnam.

We will have a traditional Hanoian dinner at a local restaurant, after which you are free to explore the city at night before retiring to our hotel room for the night.


 Notes: 
The Water Puppet Show will be seen the following day if you arrive late.


Day 2: Hanoi City Tour (B,L)


Activities: Tour around some of Hanoi's famous sites: the Ho Chi Minh Complex, one of the many museums (Vietnam Military History Museum, Museum of Art, Hoa Lo Prison or the Ethnology Museum) and the Temple of Literature.

Today you will have the entire day to explore Vietnam’s beloved capital and see what sets it apart from other cities. Our driver will pick you up after breakfast at your hotel and take you to a site of incredible significance for Vietnamese people, the Ho Chi Minh Complex. Here you will find the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Monday and Friday), Ho Chi Minh's House on Stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda and Ba Dinh Square, where Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam an independent republic after the war.

Afterwards, we will have a look around a museum of your preference. This will be either the Vietnam Military History Museum, Museum of Art, Hoa Lo Prison; where US pilots including John McCain were imprisoned during the war; or the Ethnology Museum with its extensive representation of all of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, we will head to the thousand-year-old Temple of Literature, a beautiful collection of stone buildings and palm trees that was the country’s first university.

We will conclude the day with a walking tour of Hanoi's central Old Quarter district and its streets alive with business; each street being named for the goods or services sold along with it.


Notes: 
Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum is closed between September and November. In that case, we will visit outside.


Day 3: Hanoi - Halong Bay Overnight Cruise (B,L,D)


Activities: Take it easy on a vital Northern Vietnam Tour experience: a cruise around Halong Bay.

Prepare yourself for overnight on Halong Bay, a huge expanse of vertical limestone towers, secluded beaches and hidden caves, usually the top of the list of reasons to travel Vietnam.

Our driver and guide will pick you up after breakfast and transfer you to Halong Bay. Follow the routines of the local farmers along the Red River on the way.

At noon we will board our red-sail junk boat and head out into the bay with an accompanying seafood lunch.

The Amazing Cave will be our first stop in Halong Bay, so called for its surprising collection of stalagmites and stalactites. Afterwards, we will take the short climb up Titop Mountain for panoramic views of a magnificent sunset over the limestone karsts We will head back to the boat for dinner and to set anchor somewhere quiet under the stars.

Day 4: Halong Bay - Hanoi - Fly to Da Nang - Hoian (B,L)


Activities: Enjoy your last morning in Halong Bay before we head to Noi Bai airport for our flight to Da Nang.

In the morning, you will be enjoyable breakfast with the backdrop of Halong Bay in the morning light around you. Take your last chance to visit some of the smaller caves that can only be reached by kayak.

You will have lunch on board before heading back to the harbour for ending your Halong Bay 1 night cruise. Here our driver will meet us and transfer us to Hanoi Airport for our flight to Da Nang.

When you arrive at Da Nang Airport, the capital of the Central Highlands, your new driver will collect you and drive you the short distance to the beautiful town of Hoi An.

Day : Hoian - Eco Tour Half Day (B)


Activities: Have new experiences with a water buffalo ride and rowing a local basket boat.

Have a relaxed breakfast in your new hotel before our driver takes you out of the town to the countryside at around 09:00 am. Here you will have a unique opportunity to ride one of the B.M.Ws of Vietnamese farmers: the water buffalo. Our guide will teach you the techniques and communication skills necessary to ride these friendly animals on both land and in the wet paddy fields.

You will have another new experience later as we drive to a fishing village where you have the opportunity to ride a circular basket boat or Thung Chai. Our experienced local teacher will show you how to row without going around in circles, but be prepared to get a little wet just in case!

As we drift down the river, there will be a spectacular performance of local rowers exhibiting a masterful display of control in their Thung Chai boats.

We will climb out of our boats, wave goodbye to our farmer teachers and head back to Hoi An for the evening.


Day 6: Hoian - Drive to Da Nang - Fly to Ho Chi Minh City (B)


Activities: Head to Da Nang for our plane to Ho Chi Minh City.

Our driver will take you to Da Nang airport and upon your arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, a new driver will pick you up and drop you off at your central hotel.

After that, you have the day at your leisure southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City. Take in the various sites and smells that differ so greatly from Hanoi. Try some typical southern cuisine and maybe head up the Bitexco Financial Tower for a panoramic view of the city.


Day 7: Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels - City Tour (B,L)


Activities: Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels and discover Ho Chi Minh City’s history through its many sites and monuments.

You will be picked up after breakfast at about 08:00 am and we will head to the Cu Chi Tunnels – an amazing maze of underground tunnels used by guerilla Viet Cong fighters during the American War. You will have the opportunity to climb into the tunnels and see the system for yourself.

We will stop off for lunch on the way back to Ho Chi Minh City and once we arrive, we will start our city tour. This will take us around many sites of national significance, including the Reunification Hall; which served as the Presidential Palace before both halves of Vietnam were united; the War Remnants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral and neighbouring Old Post Office, Chinatown and Ben Thanh Market.

We will conclude the tour at around 16:30 pm and you will have the evening to yourself before you head back to your hotel for the night.


Day 8: Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta Boat Trip Full Day (B,L)


Activities: Get a feel for local life on the Mekong Delta at Ben Tre.

Far from the city bustle of Ho Chi Minh City lies the famous Mekong Delta. We will head here after breakfast and explore the many orchards, farms and fisheries of Ben Tre, using bikes and boats to see the wealth of beautiful scenery on offer and soak in the refreshing country atmosphere.

A long-tail boat will ferry us to the many fish and exotic fruit farms of the Mekong waterways. Weaving our way around orchards, paddy fields and swamplands along the Mekong, we will arrive at a brick kiln factory, a mat-weaving warehouse and a coconut processing workshop for a brief tour of these local trades. At a small local village, we can enjoy some fresh tropical fruits and attempt to ride a Xe Loi, which is like a modern motorized rickshaw or cycle around the village under the shade of coconut trees.

After lunch at a restaurant overlooking the river, we will take our second boat trip of the day along the coconut tree-lined canals, enjoying the beauty of the tropical scenery.

We will head back to Ho Chi Minh City for the final night of your Vietnam Tour. 


Day 9: Ho Chi Minh City - Fly to Sieam Reap (B)


Activities: Go to Ho Chi Minh City's international airport for our flight to Siem Reap.

Take in your last view of Vietnam in the morning before we head to the international airport.

Upon arriving at Siem Reap your guide and driver will collect you and take you to your hotel for check-in. Take in the small but lively city at your own pace and rest up for an early start and an enjoyable Sieam Reap tour tomorrow.


Day 10: Angkor Wat Singtseeing (B)


Activities: Spend a full day around the Angkor Wat complex checking out its many beautiful temples.

To beat the rush, we set out early in the morning and head to the famous Ta Prohm; a mystical ruined temple now overrun by the roots of kapok trees and famous for being the setting of the Tomb Raider movie. Heading further into Angkor Wat will reveal a lot of Khmer treasures. Take in the reflective pools and huge moat around Angkor Wat Temple, with its surrounding bas-reliefs depicting stories of the Gods.  

After you have found yourself some lunch, continue your exploration of the complex at Angkor Thom with its huge array of stone carvings of various demons. After this, we will visit Bayon, notable for the many stone faces of the Khmer king that can be seen throughout the temple. We will round off the day at the complex that contains Baphuon, Leper King Terrace, Elephant Terrace, and the area of the Royal Palace. We will head back to Siem Reap for the night after this.


Day 11: Siem Reap - Tonle Sap lake Half Day (B)


Activities: Visit the floating village on Tonle Sap lake.

Have breakfast in your hotel and prepare to be picked up and taken through the countryside, spotting cattle on the road and interesting village houses on the way to the village of Me Chrey. Here, local houses rise and fall with the water levels through the different seasons. We will take a long-tail boat when we arrive and glide slowly towards the village. Enjoy the sights of local farms and rice paddies en route and, once we arrive at the village pagoda, take the opportunity to chat with the local holy men about life on the lake. 

Enjoy the last part of your Vietnam and Cambodia 12 Days vacation in Siem Reap before retiring to your hotel there.


Day 12: Siem Reap - Departure (B)


 Activities: Transfer to Siem Reap airport for your final flight.

Have breakfast at your hotel and see as much of Siem Reap as you can until your driver picks you up and takes you to the airport. Your Taste of Vietnam and Cambodia ends here, we hope you had a great time with  us and we hope to see you again!
